Access Work / Saavutettavuustyö

Centering disabled leadership & inclusive practices

My Approach

Access is not an afterthought — it’s the starting point for building spaces where everyone can participate.

I have developed what I call the process of comprehensive access. / Olen kehittänyt kokonaisvaltaisen saavutettavuuden prosessia.

I understand access as:

  • a shared responsibility across teams and audiences,
  • a living and ever-changing collective action,
  • an open-ended process,
  • a creative practice and an aesthetical choice,
  • and a political choice to center disabled people’s agency and crip knowhow.

For me, access is not only about accommodation but also about imagining other ways of being together.

Areas of Access I Work With

  • Physical access – navigating spaces and environments
  • Communication access – plain language, multilingual practices, interpretation
  • Sensory access – lighting, sound, textures
  • Social & cultural access – access to one’s culture, land, communities, support
  • Economic access – no one should be left out for lack of funds
  • Digital access

Selected Projects

Coming Stage Project (2022–23)

  • Role: facilitator
  • Work: designed access practices for the working process and performances, supported artists in embedding access in creative processes.
  • Outcome: new access insights and skills in collaboration, developed toolkits in the local context such as access riders, created conversation and understanding of access with partners and more widely in the fields of arts

Rampa Pride (since 2020)

  • Role: co-organizer
  • Work: producing an annual event centering queer, trans, and disabled joy
  • Outcome: building community and connections, highlighting the inaccessibility as a social issue regarding most Pride events

Collaborations

I have worked with:

  • Just Another Crip Group collective
  • Independent artists, grassroots groups, and institutions in Finland and internationally

Languages

  • Finnish
  • English

I often work bilingually to expand access and participation.

Why This Matters

Access is not a checklist — it’s a practice that shifts power. My work asks: who gets to enter, speak, listen, and belong? By addressing access from the beginning, we build projects where more of us can show up fully.
